This Week in Manufacturing
Today we recognize a somber memorial to the men and women who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The United States has always been a nation of perseverance and strength. While we remember, we also move forward and continue to better ourselves and our nation.
Our feature company is AMP Robotics of Louisville, Colorado and they know plenty about remembering the past while building toward the future. They want to solve the US’ long-running recycling problem with AI-powered robotics solutions - for today, and tomorrow!
Strength in business comes from diversification and this week’s headlines are a strong example: EV charging, energy technology, 3D printing, and even bioscience manufacturing. The US has evolved from putting all our eggs in one industry’s basket.
Next, our podcasts focus on finding and retaining talent (The Manufacturing Executive) and integrating smart solutions into manufacturing programs (Advanced Manufacturing Now).
Finally, this week’s Fun Fact highlights a growth indicator that has stood the test of time.
Thanks for joining us!

Founder and CEO Matanya Horowitz sees a path to exponential growth sorting recyclables with robots.
Matanya Horowitz approaches recycling problems through a robotics lens and it’s earned him a strong lead in the industry. Sorting single-stream recyclables emerged as a potential match for the AI-driven robotic systems Horowitz had in mind.
As of early 2022, AMP Robotics had deployed more than 200 systems primarily to single-stream recycling facilities in the U.S. The robots are also a good fit for operations that handle compost, electronics scrap, and construction waste.
Upshot: “There was a real clear need for what we’d built — which is a sensor that can identify packaging and paper and cardboard and these sorts of things.”
