💴 This Week in Manufacturing

Google. Amazon. HP. In the popular imagination, all great startups begin in a garage. While that’s generally only applied to the tech industry, this week’s feature manufacturing company also started life in a garage! Let’s dive into the skills and benefits inherent to startups.

This week’s feature company is NTL Industries out of Sterling Heights, MI. With years of experience and a deep client list, the husband and wife team bought a precision machine off eBay and got to work. Read more about their story and plans.

Next, this week’s headlines highlight the startup trend across manufacturing: from e-bikes to solar power, the innovation juices are flowing across the US!

Our two podcasts this week, from Augmented Ops and The Manufacturing Executive both hit on important aspects of startup culture: digital presence and learning from others.

Finally, our Fun Fact comes full circle. People start businesses because they have the skills to fill a need, and those technical manufacturing skills will remain in demand for years.

♨️ NTL Industries

Keeping a broad base of customers for their precision machining work has been an important factor in the steady growth and success of NTL Industries.

With years of wide-ranging machining experience behind him, Founder, Vice President, and Business Development Manager Greg McArthur and his wife Shelley decided that starting their own business was the way to go.

They originally started the company in their garage, with a machine Greg bought on eBay, and NTL Industries quickly grew into their current 6,000-square-foot facility. Now they are looking to expand further, into a larger facility with increased capabilities.

Upshot: “We’re very transparent in the way we run our shop. So that way, our customers aren’t guessing as to when they’re going to get their parts."
