💴 This Week in Manufacturing

Creating new objects from a printer was once the sole purview of Star Trek. Then 3D printing came on the scene. Today organizations like our feature company are impacting industries from automotive and biomedical science to robotics.

Fused started strong with aerospace industry connections and is planning expansion to support broader commercial and educational purposes.

Our headlines highlight 3D printing in the military and combined with robotics to create sustainable products across industries. EVs are making headlines too, as manufacturing catches a break all around!

This week’s podcast episode from The Manufacturing Executive dives into the intersection of servant leadership and lean manufacturing practices.

♨️ Fused

Owner Andy Kerlin — who uses his 3D printer to make parts used within the aerospace industry — seeks to expand the technology’s availability locally for educational and commercial purposes.

So far, Kerlin has produced 80 parts for Intergalactic — which works out to about 90 percent of his business since Kerlin began Fused close to a year ago. Intergalactic assembles thermal-cooling technology used by the aerospace and defense industries.

Kerlin has also attracted customers via word of mouth, as well as through his website. In expanding knowledge about 3D printing, Kerlin sees greater acceptance — and potential — for its use.

Upshot: “There’s just so many applications that this technology can be used for, that really makes it an exciting opportunity for us to grow into."
