This Week in Manufacturing
As the old saying goes, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. In the manufacturing world, it’s important to support customers in internal growth while delivering service and quality to keep them coming back. Let’s dive into an example from machining!
Our feature company is Machinen of Manhattan, Montana and they have democratized parts production by supporting customers with reliability and predictable costs driven by automation. By working with Machinen, customers can essentially set up a micro-factory for their own custom parts.
Confidence in your industry’s longevity is priceless and this week’s fun fact details how the global CNC machining industry is only at the start of its upward trajectory.
Next, this week’s headlines highlight additional manufacturing successes from solar panel production to biofuels, electric boats, and more!
This week’s featured podcast from Advanced Manufacturing Now discusses using adaptive control and monitoring to revolutionize CNC machining.
Next, our podcasts focus on finding and retaining talent (The Manufacturing Executive) and integrating smart solutions into manufacturing programs (Advanced Manufacturing Now).
Finally, this week’s Social Video gives a taste of Machinen’s 5-Axis machining at work!

♨️ Machinen
The barriers to entry have never been greater for fledgling American parts manufacturers.
In 2012, Wiley Davis, one of the co-founders, acquired a CNC machine for his company, Hondo Garage, which specialized in motorcycle and truck accessories. As demand for machining services grew, Davis soon found that running a successful machine shop was more than a full-time job.
By harnessing automation, Machinen has found a way to transform CNC machining into a reliable, flexible, and scalable process. With a staff consisting of three company founders and two engineers, Machinen provides machined parts on demand in small batches or large quantities.
Upshot: “We love manufacturing. We're passionate about it. And we want to help where we can.”
