This Week in Manufacturing

Collaboration is key in a connected and growing economy, especially within manufacturing. A rising tide lifts all boats and it’s important to share floatation devices such as workforce development. While Purdue MEP is leading the way, we’ve got more success stories just like theirs!

Our feature company is Purdue MEP based in Carmel, Indiana. The MEP supports mid-size Indiana manufacturers to overcome business challenges providing practical solutions to real-world manufacturing challenges. It all ties back to Purdue’s origins as a land-grant university.

In the same vein of supporting small businesses, our lead podcast this week from Advanced Manufacturing Now is titled “How to Modernize the SMB Manufacturing Shop Floor”. Our other podcast deals with a challenge many of Purdue MEP’s partners should be familiar with: “Managing the Challenges of Leadership Transitions” from The Manufacturing Executive.

This week’s headlines cover domestic expansion and innovation in areas such as lithium-sulfur batteries, DLP light engines, solar power, and more. Purdue MEP would be proud!

Our weekly Fun Fact highlights the continuing importance of organizations such as Purdue MEP.

Finally, this week’s Social Video is just pure machining delight.

♨️ Purdue MEP

When they need help, Indiana manufacturers turn to the Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) for expert assistance.

The Purdue MEP program is an extension of Purdue’s mission as a land-grant university. Purdue MEP assists manufacturers in four specific areas: lean manufacturing and quality improvement, workforce development, technology and innovation, and supply-chain management.

Purdue MEP plans to expand its catalog of workshops and events. MEP will also add more partners and resources and continue to do what it does best: helping Indiana manufacturers overcome business challenges so they can continue to prosper.

Upshot: “Since the organization came to the university, we've had a $7 billion economic impact on the state of Indiana.”
